Two encouraging news emanate today from the management of the Club: the arrivals of the Canadian-almost Swiss Jason Akeson (2 seasons) and the nugget of the academy Simas Ignatavicius. These two attackers are joining the team for the coming seasons. In addition, young prospects Jukna Dovydas (17 years old) and Maxime Sauthier (16 years old) join the extended framework of the team.
A Canadian soon to be Swiss!
Jason Akeson is a 34-year-old Canadian forward who is currently shining in the ICEHL, the Austrian championship. With his Italian club HC Pustertal, he totaled 106 points in 99 games. Before that, he played five seasons in the DEL (German championship) where he was twice the league’s TopScorer. During the 2021-2022 season, the winger finished the year with 68 points in 52 games (24 goals, 44 assists). He arrived in Europe after spending six seasons in North America (22 NHL games and 406 AHL games – 115 goals, 218 assists, 333 points). Jason Akeson has established himself as a pillar wherever he has played. The GSHC expects him to play a key role in Geneva as well. If the player arrives this summer as a Canadian, he will start the season as a Swiss! Indeed, Jason Akeson is married to a Swiss woman and if everything goes as planned, he should receive his white cross passport during the month of September 2025.
Marc Gautschi: “Jason will undoubtedly be a great asset to our team. Thanks to his vision of the game and his qualities as a playmaker, he will boost our offensive production, as he has demonstrated at virtually every level.”
A rough diamond trained at the Club
-It did not go unnoticed this summer at Genève-Servette! At 1m89 and weighing 85kg, Simas Ignatavicius looked good during the preparation matches with the first team and during the CHL semi-final. At only 17 years old, this young Lithuanian sniper is panicking with the elite U20s. 4th best scorer (16 goals, 24 assists, 40 pts in 35 games) in the league even though he is not yet an adult, Simas is ready for the big leap. Arriving at Genève Futur Hockey (AGFH) when he was only 13 years old, the striker quickly rose through the ranks. With the U15s at 13, then the U17s at 14, he made his first skates with the U20s when he was only 15. He played the U20 D2A World Championship with Lithuania in 2024 and with his 14 points in 5 games he was elected MVP of the tournament. He greatly contributed to his nation’s rise to the next level. Starting next season, he will join the GSHC roster and will fight to earn his place in the contingent.
If Simas Ignatavicius joins the team this summer, two other players from the AGFH join, this time, the expanded framework of the roster. These are attackers Dovydas Jukna (17 years old) and Maxime Sauthier (16 years old). Two other great hopes of the Geneva team.
Marc Gautschi: “Simas is one of Switzerland’s biggest talents and has already proven his enormous potential during this year’s preparation in the CHL. For his age, he is already well advanced physically and also has a very professional attitude. His offensive qualities, combined with a high hockey IQ and a certain toughness in his game, can make him a dominant player of the future for our club.”
