Tuesday, during his mid-season press briefing, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Brière added a layer. The Quebec hockey man said he was disappointed with the use made by Cameron and his team of the two Flyers prospects with ÉCJ, forward Jett Luchanko and defenseman Oliver Bonk.

Luchanko, him 12e overall pick in the last draft, was used in a supporting role by Cameron during the World Juniors, finishing with one goal in five games and an average ice time of 12:22. However, he had played four games in the NHL at the start of the season with the Flyers.

“We were disappointed with the role they gave to [Luchanko]but in the role he was given, he did well, he told the Philadelphia media. We have higher expectations for him. He was probably the best skater in the tournament and he almost didn’t play. This is out of our control, unfortunately. In the role he got, he was excellent and we are happy with that.”

Brière subsequently had the same type of comments about defenseman Bonk, their first-round pick in 2023.

In his case, on the other hand, it should be noted that he was the player most used by the Canadian team during the competition, spending almost 22 minutes per game on the ice.

“He played an important role,” he agreed, “but he was put in situations that are not his strengths, which was really weird in our eyes. Once again, we have no control over this.”

Remember that Bonk started the tournament as the power play quarterback, a position he does not even occupy with his junior team, the London Knights. After a difficult start to the tournament, the coaches decided to place him in the top slot. [bumper]a role that suits him better.
