The Detroit Red Wings have recalled forward Elmer Söderblom from their Grand Rapids AHL affiliate, the National Hockey League team announced Tuesday.
At 6-foot-8, Söderblom might be one of the tallest players to appear in a game this season. Matt Rempe is the tallest at 6 feet 9 inches. Next, at 6 weight 8 inches, are Tyler Myers, Louis Crevier and Adam Klapka.
6th round pick – 159th overall – of the Red Wings in 2019, Söderblom has scored 5 goals and collected 12 assists in 38 games since the start of the campaign.
The Swede played 21 games with the Red Wings in 2022-2023, scoring 5 goals and obtaining 3 assists.
The Red Wings face the Philadelphia Flyers this evening before receiving a visit from the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Laughton out against Red Wings
Flyers forward Scott Laughton will not be able to face the Red Wings tonight.
The 6-foot-1 center missed Monday’s practice for personal reasons.
Laughton has 9 goals and 14 assists in 47 games since the start of the season.
Furthermore, Samuel Ersson will be the starting goaltender against the Red Wings. Ersson has won six of his last seven starts.

The Dallas Stars have recalled forward Matěj Blümel from their Texas AHL farm club.
Blümel appeared in six games with the Stars earlier this season, scoring one goal.
He also added 18 goals and 14 assists in 32 games in the American League.
…and the Wild gives up Gaunce
The Minnesota Wild have traded forward Brendan Gaunce to his AHL affiliate Iowa.
Gaunce has not collected a point in five games with the Wild since the start of the season.
However, he has 12 goals and 10 assists in 26 games in the American League.
