2025 is starting in a special way for Real Madrid. After a humiliating rout in the Spanish Super Cup, where they lost 5-2 against FC Barcelona, the Merengues were able to bounce back in La Liga with a resounding 4-1 victory against Las Palmas. This victory allows the Madrid club to take the lead in the championship, relegating Atlético Madrid to two points, and leaving FC Barcelona and Bilbao seven lengths behind.
Real Madrid thus showed its solidity and determination, despite a difficult start to the season. With high ambitions in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti and his men remain committed on several fronts. The Italian coach was able to find an effective formula, particularly with the rise in power of Kylian Mbappé. However, the 65-year-old appears to be nearing the end of his second spell at Madrid. According to Onda Cero, Ancelotti would have made the decision to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, regardless of the Merengues’ record this year.
Although he is not yet considering retirement, Ancelotti, whose contract runs until June 2026, does not wish to continue an additional season at the head of the Madrid club. If his departure is confirmed, the big favorite to succeed him would be Xabi Alonso, the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen. The former Real Madrid midfielder, who takes the reins of the German club in 2022, would be the ideal fit for Casa Blanca, although his arrival is not guaranteed. However, Alonso is already tipped as Don Carlo’s number one successor. Thus, the end of the season could mark a decisive turning point for Real Madrid, between the conquest of new titles and the arrival of a new coach for a new chapter.
