La Gantoise in crisis: Vidarsson announces reinforcement

Ghent started the second half of the season very badly. After the sad draw obtained on the lawn of Dender last weekend (0-0), the people of Ghent lost two more points against Charleroi on Friday (1-1).

Lots of changes

The sporting management of La Gantoise was reshuffled this summer after the departures of Vanhaezebrouck, Louwagie and De Witte. Owner Sam Baro has decided to hand over a large part of the responsibilities to Arnar Vidarsson by appointing him sporting director.

During the last summer transfer window, the Icelander had a lot of work with the departures of Fernandez-Pardo, Tissoudali, De Sart and Hong, and the arrivals of Delorge, Araujo, Gudjohnsen, Vancsa, Dean and Varela.

Reinforcements to come

For the moment, only Dean and Delorge have really lived up to expectations, which is obviously far too little. La Gantoise is therefore looking for reinforcements for January in order to be among the top 6 at the end of the season, and to do well in the Conference League.

“We know we have to strengthen our team and that’s what we want to do. Sharing against Charleroi doesn’t change our plans. But we won’t recruit whoever comes first. We want players capable of making an immediate impact , not players who haven’t played for six months,” Vidarsson told Newspaper.

Wouter Vrancken hopes to be able to count on a few new faces next week, but Vidarsson cannot promise anything: “The transfer period in January is always difficult. We know that you always have to pay a little more, and that is not a problem, but it must remain reasonable.”
