“I spoke with Verbeke about a return to Anderlecht”

Sporting Anderlecht has not treated these icons (Vercauteren, Kompany, Kindermans or even Zetterberg) very well in recent years. Despite this, the Brussels club considered giving an important role to one of its former players.

Anderlecht briefly discussed a return with Yves Vanderhaghe. The one who played for several years at RSCA (2000 – 2007) remained very attached to the Brussels club and was ready to make his comeback as he confided in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad.

Verbeke spoke with Vanderhaeghe

“I had given a friend tickets for Anderlecht – Standard. After Sporting’s victory (3-0), we went to eat steak and fries. In the boxes was Peter Verbeke. He asked me for my number and called me the next day It was a good conversation They were looking for someone who could prepare the young people for the D1B and to guide them towards the first team. This really appealed to me, because I am a. trainer at heart and I know the house. Unfortunately, I received no further news after that.”

Jonathan Alves got the job

Anderlecht finally opted for Jonathan Alves. Vanderhaeghe, for his part, made his comeback on the KV Kortrijk bench. And for the moment, we cannot say that it is a great success since the 54-year-old coach has a record of one draw and two defeats after three matches.
