Well played, but lost 0-1 against RWDM

Exhausted and disappointed, the KAS Eupen players left the Kehrweg stadium early Saturday evening. After a good performance against a solid RWDM, the Pandas had to lose 0-1 in front of 1503 spectators. A great individual action from the new RWDM recruit, Soufiane Benjdida, was decisive for the match. Three minutes after coming on, in the 63rd minute of the match, he shot from 20 yards and scored low.

KAS head coach Mersad Selimbegović commented: “After such a long break and such a difficult preparation, we delivered a solid performance. We played with a lot of passion in the duels. Unfortunately, we have not yet managed to achieve a 0-0 in such a match. But if we continue to work and play like this, I am very confident that we will soon pick up points.”

For the first match after exactly four weeks of break, KAS Eupen must do without its suspended players Regan Charles-Cook, Teddy Alloh and Kevin Möhwald.

The Pandas will therefore start with Julian Renner, Yentl Van Genechten, Scott Kennedy, Brandon Baiye, Jérôme Déom, Amadou Keita, Shayne Pattynama, Rune Paeshuyse, Jan Gorenc, Bertan Caliskan and Emlehan Gedikli. The captain is Brandon Baiye.

KAS Eupen is the most offensive team in the first minutes and occupies the RWDM defense during the first quarter of an hour.

3rd minute: Shayne Pattynama places his shot on the outside net.

15th minute: first attack and first corner for RWDM, but no danger for Eupen’s goal.

17th minute: RWDM free kick from 30 meters, Scott Kennedy clears into the goal area. It is now RWDM which dominates.

19th minute: An AS counter-attack by Yentl Van Genechten can only be stopped by a foul. Yellow card for the RWDM player.

27th minute: Scott Kennedy clears in the penalty area in front of Junior Sambu.

28th minute: Jérôme Déom pushes on the right side, but his cross into the penalty area does not reach Bertan Caliskan.

In the second quarter of an hour, RWDM is the more offensive team, but the shots go once over and once next to the goal.

33rd minute: New attack from AS by Emrehan Gedikli and Jérôme Déom. The last pass finds no takers.

35th minute: RWDM picks up the pace and pushes to open the score. Jan Gorenc or Scott Kennedy remain in control of the situation.

63rd minute: Here it is 0:1. Soufiane Benjdida, who entered the game 3 minutes ago, wins his duel and shoots from 20 meters. The ball passes flat into the left corner of Julian Renner.

65th minute: double change at KAS Eupen: Bertan Caliskan and Amadou Keita come out, Pape Niang and Milos Pantovic enter.

70th minute: Ilys Ziani alone in the penalty area in front of Julian Renner. The Eupen goalkeeper stops the ball and clears.

75th minute: Change number 3 at KASE: striker Renaud Emond comes into play in place of full-back Yentl Van Genechten.

84th minute: Jérome Déom and Brandon Baiye are replaced by David Widlarz and Jaden Malhage.

90th minute +3: AS coach Mersad Selimbegović gets angry on the sidelines: his players are not smart enough on free kicks in the last minutes of play to put the big players in position team and create danger. The score remains 0-1.
