Striker Erling Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract which will keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2034, the reigning Premier League champion announced on Friday.
While the Norwegian colossus’ previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2027, he signed one of the longest contracts in football history, which will allow him to stay with the Citizens until he is 34. “I am very happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” commented the 24-year-old.
“Manchester City is a special club, with fantastic people and extraordinary supporters, and it’s the kind of environment that allows everyone to give their best,” he added. For his part, Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, noted that the fact that Haaland has signed for so long “demonstrates our commitment to him as a player and his love for the club”.
Haaland’s contract length becomes the longest in the Premier League, surpassing that of the nine-year contract Cole Palmer signed with Chelsea last August. Arriving at the Etihad from Dortmund in 2022, the striker has already scored 111 goals in 126 matches for the club. He also won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League and the European Super Cup.
-Manchester City is currently in 6th place in the English championship, twelve points behind leader Liverpool.
