Chelsea will escape a points withdrawal

On a sporting level, Chelsea are back at the forefront this season. Fifth in the Premier League, Enzo Maresca’s players are in the race for the podium, and therefore qualification for the Champions League. But behind the scenes, the Blues are caught up in their past. A year ago, the Telegraph revealed that the owners who acquired the London club in 2022 had reported financial irregularities to the Premier League, the FA and UEFA concerning transactions carried out between 2012 and 2019.

Following this report, the transfers of Willian and Eto’o, who arrived from Anzhi Makhachkala, were examined. Payments were allegedly made to “Russian entities” undeclared, outside of official transactions. But the Telegraph now reveals that Chelsea and Premier League officials are negotiating a financial settlement of the dispute, and thus avoid a withdrawal of points. An agreement could be reached in the coming weeks.
