Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Penguins made a shocking decision by announcing that goaltender Tristan Jarry was placed on waivers.
The 29-year-old goaltender signed a five-year, $26.8 million extension with the Penguins on July 1, 2023, meaning that in addition to this season, he has three years remaining on his current contract with a cap hit of $5.38 million.
Well 24 hours have passed and no team has decided to claim him.
The goalkeeper Joel Blomqvist was recalled from the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins to take his place in the lineup. Tristan Jarry will therefore continue its season in the American League.
This really isn’t surprising considering Jarry’s annual salary. Few teams could add a $5.38 million salary to their payroll and of the teams that can, the vast majority already have a starting goaltender doing the job.
-It now remains to be seen what Kyle Dubas will do with this situation.
More details will follow.
