Los Angeles fires: Taylor Fritz donates his Australian Open winnings

A breath of hope in a landscape of desolation. Victoria DeSantis lost everything in the fire at her Altadena home, which she had to leave in seconds. “I left with two pairs of jeans and two sweaters. And all my childhood memories, all my children’s childhood memories… Everything is gone,” she tells “Good Morning America”.

In the rush, Victoria didn’t have time to grab her wedding ring and her engagement ring, which she had left on a piece of furniture near the entrance. “All that mattered was that my daughter and my dog were safe in the car and that we escaped this disaster,” she says.

While going through the rubble of her house, the Californian came across her melted engagement ring. The mother then said to herself that her wedding ring had suffered the same fate. Until a firefighter who was working in the rubble discovered the famous jewel, intact. “I was so happy,” Victoria breathes.

The American sent the photo of this improbable find to her husband, who jokingly replied: “Now you are really stuck with me. » “We’re all trying to keep our humor in all of this. (…) We are safe. We are still here. Nothing else matters. We are together. Everything else is wind. We’re doing well,” Victoria concludes.
