Henk Lategan trapped: “I’m not an expert on dunes”

This Dakar 2025 was perhaps decided on this 11th stage contested in a loop around Shubaytah in the famous Empty Quarter. A playing field far from being conducive to Henk Lategan, who presented himself this Thursday morning in the shoes of the leader of the general classification.

Faced with his runner-up and local of the event who knows the dunes of the largest uninterrupted expanse of sand in the world to perfection Yazeed Al-Rajhi, the South African could hope for nothing. A silting of its rival perhaps, but this never happened. So, Henk Lategan was content to “survive” until the end, hoping to lose as little time as possible.

Almost unsurprisingly, the Toyota driver lost 8’38 to Yazeed Al-Rajhi who is now 6’11 ahead of him with one stage remaining in this 2025 Dakar.

« We couldn’t do better today (THURSDAY) in all honesty I tried everything and did my bestconceded the South African. We were trying to find traces while we opened certain portions with Lucas (Moraes, his teammate). I’m definitely not an expert on sand and dunes but I’m happy to be at the finish with the car in one piece. Only one more day and we will see the end. »

Regardless of the final outcome of this 2025 Dakar, Henk Lategan is above all happy to have made his comeback, having been forced to withdraw from 2024 after a shoulder injury a few weeks before the start.

« It’s incredible, we had a very good Dakar with ups and downs.he continues. Some things worked out in our favor, others didn’t. But overall I’m happy with how it went, there’s still one day of racing left. »
