Pittsburgh Penguins | Tristan Jarry placed on waivers

The Pittsburgh Penguins have seen enough from their goaltender Tristan Jarry, who was twice selected to the all-star team.

The club announced it would place Jarry on waivers Wednesday afternoon.

Jarry, 29, is 8-7-4 with a 3.32 goals-against average and .886 save percentage this season for Pittsburgh. The Penguins begin a seven-game road trip later this week that will determine the playoff race in the East, where Sidney Crosby and his gang are certainly not in a strong position.

The decision comes 18 months after the club offered Jarry a five-year contract with an average annual value of $5.375 million. Jarry was invited to the All-Star Game in 2020 and 2022, but has struggled the past two seasons.

Jarry gave up his starting place to Alex Nedeljkovic last spring. Although he resumed his role early in the season, he stumbled early on and was sent to the American Hockey League for an extended period of rehab.

Jarry was particularly poor at the start of the match. He has allowed a goal on the opponent’s first shot six times this season and allowed a shorthanded goal on Seattle’s second shot in a 4-2 loss to the Kraken on Tuesday.

It’s unlikely any team would want to claim Jarry and take on his salary, which would open the door to sending him back to the American League.
