Boxing: Olympic medalist Wyatt Sanford joins Eye of the Tiger

Eye of the Tiger (EOTTM) adds an Olympic medalist to its stable. The promoter announced Wednesday the signing of Wyatt Sanford, the first Canadian boxer to stand on an Olympic podium since 1996, last August in .

“By choosing EOTTM, I chose an organization that has the well-being of its athletes at heart and that will always defend the best of my interests. In boxing, it’s not like that everywhere, so for me, it was essential. And I am even happier, because it also allows me to stay at home and box in front of my people,” commented the bronze medalist from the Paris Olympic Games in a press release.

“Even though Wyatt Sanford is a local athlete, you have to understand that with his international results and his spectacular style, he could have signed with any other promoter. His signing with EOTTM therefore adds even more depth to our stable, and also reiterates our aspiration to compete with the biggest promoters on the international scene,” rejoiced the president of Eye of the Tiger, Camille Estephan.

In addition to his podium at the Paris Games (2024), Sanford also competed at the Tokyo Games (2021). The athlete from Kennetcook also won gold at the Pan American Games in Santiago (2023), silver at the Continental Championships in Cali (2023), as well as bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (2022).

Ranked number one in the country among seniors since 2017, he has won four Canadian championships among juniors.

“Wyatt has always been a physical boxer, with great punching power and good distance control. In three-round fights, his best moments are often in the 2nd and 3rd, so that gives us an idea of what he can accomplish among the professionals,” commented his trainer Vincent Auclair.

“We are beyond proud to have been able to sign the first Canadian Olympic boxing medalist in over 28 years. Not only is Wyatt Sanford a recruit with immense potential, but he is also a local boxer, who has developed from A to Z in the Canadian amateur boxing system,” said Director of Recruitment of ‘EOTTM, Marc Ramsay.

The exact date of Sanford’s professional debut will be announced by Eye of the Tiger in the coming weeks.
