World Cup: Switzerland held in check by Czechia

Switzerland started the world championship in Herning with a 17-17 draw against the Czech Republic. With 8 goals, Lenny Rubin was the most prolific Swiss.

The Swiss most often led in the score. They were up to four lengths ahead (6-2), but perhaps paid dearly for a slump which saw the scoreboard go from 8-5 to 8-10. The Czechs took the lead in the 57th minute, but Rubin was able to equalize soon after. Goalkeeper Nikola Portner made fifteen saves. He was logically named man of the match.

Andy Schmid’s men will play their second meeting on Friday against Germany, who are the group favorites. She will then face Poland on Sunday. You must finish in the top three to qualify for the main round.
