The Swiss did well during the individual World Cup in Ruhpolding. Niklas Hartweg (4th) and Joscha Burkhalter (10th) were indeed ranked in the top 10.
Hartweg did not come far from his third podium at this level. But he paid dearly for his only mistake at the prone shooting range, which earned him a one-minute penalty. He missed 24 seconds to obtain third place. And without this mistake, the Schwyzois would even have finished second.
For his part, Burkhalter also missed only one of the twenty targets, but with a standing shot. The Bernese nevertheless equaled the best ranking of his career in the World Cup. Three years ago, he had already taken 10th place in the Ruhpolding sprint.
Zurich’s Sebastian Stalder knocked down all the targets, but he is currently behind on skis. He thus took 23rd place at 2’41”7.
The Genevan Jeremy Finello (60th/5 faults) and the Friborg James Pacal (75th/2 faults) will be able to tell their descendants that they once beat the great dominator of the discipline, Johannes Thingnes Boe: the Norwegian had a day without, with five missed targets, and was relegated to… 85th rank!
The Norwegian Vebjörn Soerum, junior world sprint champion in 2020 in Lenzerheide, won with a 20/20 in the pit. He preceded the Frenchman Emilien Claude, also perfect in shooting, by 52”1.
