“I don’t think the Canadian is comfortable going to six”

Let’s talk about the transaction market.

The Jake Evans case is probably the most important for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton. After all, he is CH’s best player this season among the club’s unrestricted free agents for the summer of 2025.

And I say that with all respect for David Savard, who is also important. Yesterday he stood up after the second goal of the Utah representatives and it whipped his teammates on the bench.

We know that the Canadian wants to extend the contract of its center player – discussions are already taking place in this direction – before the trade deadline… but the club does not want to do it at all costs.

Once again, in his article of the day on The Athletic website, Pierre LeBrun spoke about the file. And he reiterated that the Canadian does not want Evans to have too big a “home run” type contract for the next few years.

What the informant mentions is that the number of years in the contract will surely be the point that will complicate the negotiations. The 28-year-old will want to take advantage of his window of opportunity, but…

But CH might not want to sign the player long term, according to Pierre LeBrun.

I don’t think the Canadian is comfortable going to five or six years. – Pierre LeBrun

The journalist is of the opinion that if the CH has not signed Evans by March 7, he will be shopped around by force of circumstances. After all, there are teams who will want him at $1.7 million.

And as the market should activate quickly this season, as written by Marco D’Amico, the CH CEO’s phone will ring sooner rather than later.

If the CH and Evans will have to “both be a little uncomfortable” to reach an agreement, it will therefore be necessary to determine what the risk management will be for the two clans.

And if both are comfortable taking a little risk, there should/could be an announcement within a few weeks.

– What will he do?
