Having just won his title as the best young player in Swiss Football in 2024, during Swiss Football Night on Monday, Ardon Jashari knocked on the door of the major European championships. He deserves this trophy. And this is also what the CIES Football Observatory supports.
In its traditional weekly letter sent every Wednesday, the study center based in Neuchâtel this week analyzed the propensity of players under the age of 23 playing outside the five major European championships (England, Italy, Germany, Spain and France) to be ready to take the plunge.
In the top 100, dominated by the Belgian from Sporting CP Zeno Debast, only one Swiss stands out: Ardon Jashari. The Zougois left Lucerne for Bruges last summer. And in Belgium, he’s having a blast. After taking a few weeks to find his place, the Swiss international (two selections) is an essential pillar of the club, 2nd in its championship and 19th in the Champions League phase.
With already 25 appearances this season (including 2 goals and 4 assists), Jashari justifies the six million euros invested in him. Above all, at 22 years old, he stands out enough to be a candidate for the next level, that of the biggest championships.
This is what the CIES study reveals. What is it based on? Accumulated playing time, the level in which it was earned and performance indicators. No surprise, therefore, to find Jashari well placed. Because he is also the only young Swiss player to perform so regularly in an intermediate championship, in addition to the European Cup.
The other Swiss? You have to look for them further. And in Switzerland. Albian Hajdari, strengthened by his European campaign with Lugano, is the best-placed Super League player. And Alvyn Sanches? It appears further down. It’s not talent that he lacks, however. But the Lausanne player has never played in the European Cup. And to aim higher, it’s an experience that counts.
