It’s a victory he didn’t expect. Gabin Ménoret, 21 years old and still in 2e hopeful year, imposed himself during the test of cross court of the departmental championship cross country last Sunday at Parc du Loiry, in Vertou (near Nantes).
Left very quickly from the start, Blain’s athlete quickly had several tens of meters in advance, which he was able to maintain during the three loops that punctuated the course.
“I didn’t expect to be alone in the lead, I thought everyone was going to leave very quickly. When I turned around and saw my lead, I told myself I might as well go all the way! », he reacted after his victory.
Clément Panche three seconds behind
The one who was announced as one of the favorites of the event was however hot, because Clément Panche came back on him in the final straight.
But the member of the Nantes Racing club for 3 years was able to maintain his first place, finishing his race in 11’35”3 seconds ahead of his runner-up: “I didn’t know when Clément was going to come back to me. If he had come back a little earlier, I don’t know if I would have managed to stay in the lead,” confided the winner who had taken part in another race the previous evening in Saint-Brieuc, just like Clément Panche.
