POSTPONEMENT OF THE CHAN, PATRICE MOTSEPE CLARIFIES

The Confederation of African (CAF) announced on Tuesday the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) which was to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The president of the body, Patrice Motsepe, reacted to this postponement due to a delay noted in infrastructure.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership, commitment and the significant progress made in the construction and modernization of stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to successfully host the CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) – Kenya, Tanzania , Uganda 2024.”

“I am convinced that the stadiums, the grounds, the hotels, the hospitals… will meet the required standards”

“I am impressed by the ongoing construction and renovation works of football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. I am confident that stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities will meet the standards required by CAF to host, in August 2025, a very successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) – Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024,” he declared on the site official of the CAF.”

On the other hand, the body clarified that contrary to rumors, the draw for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) is maintained. As planned, it will take place this Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. Nairobi time.

The exact start date of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for August in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, will be announced by CAF in due course.
