Al Rajhi and Overdrive take control of the Dakar: “It was our plan”

A successful but inconsistent driver, Al Rajhi finally seems to have found the key to success. During the 9th stage, the smiling Yazeed hit hard and well. “I’m very happy, we did a good job, it was our plan to attack on Tuesday to fight for victory,” he whispered upon arrival.

Henk Lategan was cautious before embarking on the special, indicating that the gaps between the participants are very fluid. The Toyota South Africa driver was ultimately the main victim of his words. In his misfortune, he can tell himself that the situation could still change in the dunes of the Empty Quarter. “It’s a bit of a disaster to be honest.” he admits. “It was a real mess around km 13 where we got lost and missed a waypoint. On top of that, we already had a puncture and we had another one, the wheel is still flat. In short, a chaotic day.”

A third thief could invite himself into the final fight. Nasser Al-Attiyah, winner of the stage and 4th overall, is certainly 25 minutes behind Al Rajhi but his knowledge of the Saudi dunes could allow him to sign a hold-up for Dacia. “I can be happy”indicates the Qatari. “We have three days left and we will try to do our best.”

With two more big stages in the dunes, the mass is very far from being said in Saudi Arabia, that’s for sure.
