Hugo Gaston throws in the towel in the 2nd round

The Frenchman Hugo Gaston, 81st player in the world, left the Australian Open on Wednesday due to retirement, while he was led one set to zero by the Czech Jiri Lehecka (29th) in the 2nd round.

Falling in the first round against the Australian Omar Jasika, whom he had dominated in four sets, Gaston threw in the towel while Lehecka won the first set 6-3 and led 3-1 in the second act. The Frenchman was one of six Frenchmen entered on Wednesday in Melbourne, alongside Ugo Humbert (14th), Arthur Fils (21st), Benjamin Bonzi (64th), Quentin Halys (74th) and Arthur Cazaux (108th).

In 2024, Gaston also stopped in the 2nd round in Melbourne, beaten by the American Taylor Fritz.
