Dani Olmo affair: Barça’s rant

The president of FC Barcelona Joan Laporta denounced on Tuesday “attempts to destabilize” against his club in the matter of the re-registration of Dani Olmo and Victor, whose licenses had been canceled by La Liga.

“We returned to the 1-1 rule (1 euro generated, 1 euro to spend), which now allows us to recruit normally and register players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. This confirms the strength of FC Barcelona and dismantles a certain apocalyptic discourse,” Laporta said during a press conference.

The president of Barça denounced “attempts to destabilize from the outside and from within” aimed at degrading the image of his club, the decision of the Higher Sports Council to grant the temporary re-registration of the two Spanish players having been perceived as unfair by several La Liga clubs and by its president Javier Tebas.

Asked about the mechanism that allowed the Catalan club to enter into financial fair play, Laporta confirmed the recent signing of the “best sports equipment contract” in the world of football with Nike, valued at 1.8 billion dinars. euros until 2028, and the sale, at the end of December, of the operation of VIP seats at Camp Nou, still under construction, for an amount estimated at 100 million euros over 20 years.

“The money, sent on December 31, only arrived on January 3,” he regretted, while La Liga asked for sufficient financial guarantees to keep the licenses of Olmo and Victor, temporarily registered at the start of the season thanks to the injury of the Dane Andreas Christensen.

Barça had not respected the deadline imposed by La Liga, which had logically concluded with the expiration of the licenses of the two Spanish players. According to the authorities, current regulations prohibit a player from being awarded a new license by the same club during the same season.

Now re-registered with La Liga, Dani Olmo, recruited for 60 million euros this summer, and the young Pau Victor will be able to wear the Blaugrana jersey again. However, their situation remains pending a possible revision of the rules by the Spanish football authorities in the face of this unprecedented case.
