Carole supporters will have at least experienced one positive moment during Charleroi-Union: a youngster from the club made his debut.
Quentin Benaets (21 years old) is not one of those successes written in advance: very few bet on playing time for the Zébras Elites full-back but his rise in power in recent weeks has been noticed by Rik De Mil, who rewarded with this first rise to the game.
“I felt good and I’m happy to have received my chance. The coach told me to bring it offensively, with my quality as a center in particular, and I think I did it”, rejoices the player present in Charleroi since 2019 after arriving from Bas-Oha.
“Of course, there was a bit of adrenaline, that’s normal. But as soon as I got on the pitch, I knew what I had to do. We were trailing, so I had to bring in crosses , but unfortunately it didn’t pay off.”
Benaets usually plays in D1 ACFF but had already taken his place on the bench 4 times in D1A this season, as well as in the Croky Cup. With the Zébra Elites, he has already scored 4 goals this season, and could well be one of the good surprises of the second half of the season.
“I’ve been here for a few years and these last few months have been very positive for me. It wasn’t planned for me to join the pro group this year,” recognizes Quentin Benaets. “But through good training, I was able to get my chance. Too bad it ended in defeat.”
