About a year ago, David Garel began an existential shift with the aim of improving the image of his site, but also his own image (directly that of his site, you will agree).
His emergence from the shadows during a balado of Stanley25 was probably the turning point of his « conversion ».
I don’t know if you should thank me or throw tomatoes at me for this episode…
The guy behind the site Hockey30 a few weeks ago started doing a series of interviews: Réjean Tremblay, Georges Laraque, Sylvain Chamberland…
And now he does it again today with an interview lasting more than an hour with David Ettedgui, former NHL agent.
The former agent turned collaborator on the airwaves of BPM Sports (Laraque & Gonzalez) spoke about his past as agent of Brendan Gallagher and Carey Price, but also about his recent information concerning Patrik Laine and Ivan Demidov in particular.
Ettedgui said that it was still enough rock n’ rollbeing Carey Price’s agent.
“I haven’t often had a player where it wasn’t rock n’ roll […] If people knew everything that was going on in the background, they would be crazy. Carey, he had his ups and downs, as everyone knows […] We had stories with all our players (not just with Carey Price). » – David Ettedgui
Ettedgui then gave some examples of fires he had to put out as a players’ agent, taking care not to name anyone. But it’s easy to associate certain situations with some of your former clients…
“Players getting girls pregnant has happened often, on several occasions and that needs to be covered up. It’s complicated. Or the girl wants a relationship, he doesn’t. The guy is married or not married. I’ve had situations where I had to bail players out of jail […] This shouldn’t come out in the media. […] problems with alcohol consumption, drug consumption. Players who beat their wives. » – David Ettedgui
If you think it’s easy, being an agent and taking odds on a lucrative NHL contract, you’re wrong.
You have to scout M15 and M18 to find the nuggets and the one who makes it to the end often comes with several delicate situations to manage.
For the two or three stories that were revealed publicly by journalists (Hockey Canada, QMJHL and NHL), how many stories remained secret? Probably about 99.9%!
Note that David Ettedgui admitted that Jaroslav Halak found his agent (Allan Walsh) imbecile at the time and that Réjean Tremblay already thought about writing a book (probably not very polished) on Carey Price and/or PK Subban.
