After the Cup, here is the Jupiler Pro League again for the first weekend of 2025. The managers responded but there are still a few surprises in our typical team!
Goalkeeper
We could have paid tribute to Senne Lammens, who again saved a penalty, but overall the game Mike Penders was probably the most complete this weekend. Has the Genk nugget finally found a place in the eleven? In terms of qualities, it would be 100% deserved.
Defenders
We opt for a back three, because few of the attacking players really stood out this weekend. Brandon Mechele is starting to become an essential part of our typical teams and was once again impassable against Anderlecht, whether in front of Dolberg or Vazquez.
Bruno Godeau saved the furniture on several occasions, sometimes in an emergency, allowing Sint-Truiden to get three precious points in Westerlo. Finally, Ibe Hautekiet was once again the rock necessary for Standard to hold zero, and this time, Rouches took the opportunity to win.
Midfielders
First two pistons to occupy the sides. Left side, Gary Magnée confirmed his superb form with Cercle de Bruges by being assisting and untenable on his entire flank. Three precious points for the people of Bruges, and he has a lot to do with it. Alessio Castro-Monteshe only played 45 minutes, but at what level! He turned the match in favor of the Union at Mambourg.
In the midfield, a solid trio of midfielders. Ardon Jasharilike Mechele, is a real routine in our teams of the week and was again imperial against Anderlecht when Bruges needed to control the game. Bryan Heynenhe helped Genk manage their numerical inferiority like a real boss, which he has been since the start of the season.
Finally, Faisal Al-Ghamdi confirmed all the good things that have been thought of him for many months now: the best Saudi in Beerschot over the entire season is perhaps him rather than Al-Sahafi, who is more of a man lightning.
Attackers
You count correctly: there will therefore be two attackers in our 3-5-2 formation. Of course we cannot miss Ferran Jutglaauthor of a double against RSC Anderlecht. At his side, several candidates: Franjo Ivanovic scored a marvel, Felipe Augusto scored the only goal for Cercle de Bruges, Andrés Ferrari planted one of the goals of the year from 50 meters.
But we opt for Dennis Ayensaauthor of such an important (nice) goal which allows Standard to place itself in ambush 3 points from the top 6. Les Rouches will be reassured to be able to count on someone other than Zeqiri to add to the scoreboard!
Eleven:
Penders / Mechele – Godeau – Hautekiet / Magnée – Heynen – Al Ghamdi – Jashari – Castro-Montes / Jutgla – Ayensa
