Unworthy of Anderlecht: 300,000 euros for a new pitch that is immediately unplayable – All football

“The ball sometimes bounced a meter high,” said Hans Vanaken after the clash between Anderlecht and Club Bruges. And he wasn’t even exaggerating. However, Anderlecht had just laid down new ground.

It didn’t take five minutes after the first tackles or accelerations that the first pieces of grass were already detached. Anderlecht’s new pitch cost 300,000 euros and attracted widespread criticism.

But we don’t do miracles: this lawn had barely been laid… and immediately suffered from the heavy snowfall of the last few days. The grass roots therefore did not have time to take hold. “At some point you had to be more careful about how you passed the ball than what you were going to do with it,” sighed Ardon Jashari.

“Our victory seemed easier than it was, because the pitch was very heavy,” continued the Swiss midfielder. “But we just played really well, despite the circumstances.”

In Anderlecht, we recognize that the pitch was not in good condition, but that it was also predictable. “We can’t expect miracles,” sighed David Hubert. “I saw people working here day and night.”

“Just like us, the pitch has not had a sufficient rest period. The turf patches cannot adhere quickly. We hope it will improve in a few days, but that really has nothing to do with the work of our gardeners”, defends the RSCA coach.
