A must-have, even for classical dance novices: Swan Lake. A ballet in four acts by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed between 1875 and 1876, which spans the ages and remains one of the most famous works of art in contemporary culture. Yet, Swan Lake was long misunderstood. It was Marius Petipa, a choreographer born in Marseille before living in Russia, who gave it his own choreographic reading in 1895. Today, it is the most performed ballet in the world.
