The French achieved an incredible collective individual performance with five Blue in the top 10 women and six Blues in the top 10 men. The final bouquet of a weekend where Tricolors were at the party.
Emily Harrop won the women’s sprint this Friday and Axelle Gachet Mollaret the vertical race this Saturday. They found themselves on the individual podium to achieve an exceptional double after having dominated the debates this Monday, January 13. Axelle Gachet Mollaret triumphed in 1:30:35:8, 1:36:8 ahead of her compatriot.
First non-French in the ranking and only in the top 5, Johanna Heimer completed the podium 5 min 43 sec 5 behind the first. A real abyss!
Lorna Bonnel et Léna Bonnel finished fourth and fifth respectively. Célia Perillat-Pessey also invited herself into the top 10 by finishing seventh, three days after her bronze medal in the sprint.
The French did even better among the men. Even without victory, they were omnipresent at the front to demonstrate the tricolor density in ski mountaineering.
Samuel Equy (2nd) and Thibault Anselmet (3rd) got on the podium behind the Swiss Rémi Bonnet who achieves the vertical-individual double in Azerbaijan. He won in 1h 28m 23s 8. Both Blues arrived almost together at the bottom of the final descent to finish 3 min 27 sec 3 and 3 min 30 sec 3 behind the winner.
Paul Verbnjak threatened this double, but the Austrian finally finished almost 30 seconds after them and before a French quartet: Anselme Damevin, William Bon Mardion, Xavier Gachet et Gedeon Pochat Cottilloux.
An incredible and promising group shot for the rest of the season. And for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Gameseven if the individual is not on the Olympic program. Only the sprint and the mixed relay will be contested for the debut of this sport at the Winter Olympics.
