Suzuki AllGrip: technology designed for “Great Odysseys”

Since January 11, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has hosted the 21st edition of La Grande Odyssée VVF, the sled dog racing event.

For 13 days, 65 international mushers and their 600 athletic dogs challenge themselves by covering 400 km and 12,000 meters of elevation gain.

These extreme conditions explain the choice of models made available to the organization and the athletes by Suzuki, a long-time partner of La Grande Odyssée.

The Great Odyssey VVF: the life-size adventure

An XXL endurance event, La Grande Odyssée not only has 11 stages in 13 days of racing, but it takes place in particularly demanding conditions. Indeed, if the landscapes crossed by the competitors rival each other in beauty and poetry, they tax their bodies as much as they require increased vigilance. Wind, snow, ice, snowdrifts, sleet… The list of weather disturbances affecting driving is limitless… but far from being without risks for mushers and their athletic dogs.

This is why the partnership established since 2012 between La Grande Odyssée and Suzuki makes sense: the brand makes available to the organization (like competitors during transfers) a fleet of Vitara and S-Cross equipped with its AllGrip 4-wheel drive technology, designed to meet the challenges of high mountain roads in winter.

All-terrain expertise

These two SUV models have very strong and complementary personalities. Robust and comfortable, the S-Cross Hybrid stands out for its style and character, accentuated by the design of its grille. Equipped with an anthology of safety systems and driving aids accessible via 9” HD touch screen, this model offers a very pleasant feeling of space and light thanks in part to its panoramic sliding glass roof. Modular (the rear seats are adjustable to offer more loading possibilities), the S-Cross is available in two engines (1.4 Boosterjet Hybrid manual gearbox, 129 hp. or 1.5 Dualjet Hybrid automatic gearbox, 115 hp.).

Also offering the choice between the two engines, also equipped with a panoramic sunroof, the new Vitara Hybrid impresses with the refined elegance of its interior: comfortable, spacious and ergonomic, it remains a trusted partner in every circumstance.

S-Cross and Vitara are naturally compatible with the new Suzuki Connect smartphone application, which allows you to control your vehicle remotely at any time. In addition, they share a Suzuki exclusive: “AllGrip select” technology, an electronically managed all-wheel drive system. Operating in 4 different modes (Auto, Snow, Sport and Lock), this system adapts the transmission to each circumstance. Ideal in normal situations, Auto mode automatically switches from 2 to 4 wheel drive depending on the level of grip, while Snow mode is recommended on more slippery roads for greater stability and traction control – with 4-wheel operation. mostly driving wheels. Optimized for sporty driving or on winding roads, Sport mode offers more torque transfer to the rear wheels to improve performance and engine responsiveness; finally, Lock mode deploys a calibrated braking force on the wheels that are slipping — with the necessary torque transferred in priority to those that are gripping.

Four additional proofs of Suzuki’s expertise (new window)for all driving situations; enough to take the wheel with complete peace of mind…
