Gambardella Cup: the U19s of Guingamp win the essential by qualifying in Mulsanne

Facing the U18s from Regional 2 of Mulsanne-Téloché, the U19 Nationals of Guingamp logically enforced the hierarchy by qualifying, without much difficulty, two goals to nothing, on Sunday, during the 32nd finals of the Gambardella Cup.

Gambardella Cup (32nd finals). Mulsanne – Téloché (U18 R2) -Guingamp (U19 Nationals): 0-2

More technical, clearly more athletic too, the Bretons showed themselves to be more in place on the pitch and therefore more effective on their opportunities. Jean-Yves Djegou, the “Rouge et Noir” striker, continued his harvest by scoring, as on December 15, a double against the Sarthois. First in the 25th minute, he concluded a highlight for his teammates. Winner of a first duel, Mulsanne goalkeeper Maxence Goueri did not resist the second attack and let the visitors take the advantage. While things seemed to be balanced after the locker room, Djegou took advantage of a corner in favor of Guingamp to double the lead, a few seconds before the referee’s whistle.

Guingamp then seemed to manage the second half more than actually going for a third goal. Facing them, Mulsanne, although less physically fresh, did not relax his efforts. Defensively, the Sarthois remained attentive, like this strike in the 60th minute deflected by Mulsan captain, Corentin Plouseau.

In the stands, around twenty agents had come to observe the young Breton team. Guingamp remained focused and did not give Mulsanne the opportunity to be dangerous in his area, perfectly ensuring the marking of the offensive elements. A logical qualification, against the Petit Poucet of the competition, which sent the Bretons to the round of 16 of the Gambardella Cup.

“We came here knowing that there was a great team opposite that had already defeated two big teams. We knew what to expect, that it was a team that was not going to give up and be rather opportunistic on set pieces in particular, judges Jonathan Dru, the Guingamp coach. So, we were very serious, especially in the first half where we were not flamboyant but effective. The terrain, which was difficult for both teams, made it difficult to put our game together; we played a more direct game. We are more in management in the second half. Now, we will have to do more if we want to go further in this competition. We will have to be more demanding and more rigorous. I expect a little greater mastery. There were races but we lacked precision, especially in the last 20 meters, we lacked spontaneity and maturity in very precise playing actions. But we must remember the context, the public, these are matches which are very formative. »
