Soccer. The beautiful year 2024 for Quentin Surget, with Serquigny and in the French team

With his team Serquigny-Nassandres football clubhe plays the leading roles in the championship (in Regional 2) and has just completed a historic run in the Coupe de France (elimination in 7^e round against the professionals of En Avant Guingamp). Ten selections for the French team

If he had to remember only one date from last year, it would be July 10.

“That’s the day I started training again”remembers Quentin Surget, 26, away from the field since November 25, 2023. That day, Quentin suffered a ruptured Achilles heel while playing with Serquigny against Saint-Julien.

Such an injury generally requires a recovery time of approximately 6 to 9 months. From this point of view Quentin “did not hang around”. It must be said that as Paris firefighterhe was able to benefit from exceptional care, first at the Musse hospital in Evreux then at the European Sports Rehabilitation Center in Cape Breton, a place reserved for professional or semi-pro footballers… and to athletes selected for the French military team.

Yes, Quentin Surget does not only play football with the FCSN, he also plays championship matches with the Paris firefighters – of which he has been a member since 2017 – (at least one per month) and is on the verge of becoming an indisputable starter in the French military team.

The last quarter of 2024 will have been very prolific for him from this point of view. Indeed Quentin honored his 9^e et 10^e selections for the French team, and the first two with the captain’s armband. This Kentish Cup, one of the oldest competitions in the world – it has existed since 1921 – this year pitted England, the Netherlands and France against each other.

“It was Major Petit, head of the France team, who informed me that it had been decided to give me the armband during the match against the Netherlands and then for the match against England. It was a source of pride. Unfortunately, we won against the Netherlands (5-0) but lost against the English (1-0),” confides Quentin.

It’s been two editions that the English have won. The last time France lifted the trophy was in 2022 and already, Quentin Surget was part of this expedition.

Why did the captaincy honors go to him?

« It is traditional for the armband to be worn by a soldier and not a reservist.on the one hand, and that the captain is one of the most capped players in the French team,” indicates Quentin Surget, who filled both boxes.

There is also no doubt that his recent performances for club and French team – author of a goal and an assist, he was elected “man of the match” on October 16, 2024 against Ireland – pleaded in its favor.

No doubt, Quentin Surget has proven since July 10, 2024 and going crescendo – gradual resumption of training, friendly matches then official meetings – thathe had regained his former level and even more.
