From the playground to the international event: this is the fate of the game of cat and mouse. The chase tag competition, “the professional version” of the game, according to Léa Marionette, organizer, will take place on January 18. It will be held, for the third consecutive year, in the Urban Corp sports hall in Toulouse.

“It’s played in an arena measuring 12 meters by 12 meters, with lots of obstacles inside: bars, boards, wooden modules, etc.,” explains the organizer. The mouse has 20 seconds to try to escape without being touched or ‘tagged’, as they say, by the cat.”

A “complete” discipline

Created in the United Kingdom 5 years ago, the discipline requires many different qualities. “It’s really complete, you need a lot of physical skills: speed for the race, explosiveness to successfully overcome obstacles as quickly as possible, and to avoid them too,” indicates Léa Marionette.

But “mental skills” are also necessary: ​​“There is still a large part of strategy, you have to be able to anticipate what your opponent is going to do, a bit like in chess.” Eight teams will compete next week, coming from all over Europe: Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Sweden…

Refreshment bar and catering on site

In France, “only three rooms have the necessary equipment for this type of competition, says the organizer. And none has the capacity of the Urban Corp room.” A unique side, which makes the Pink City shine. “We have our two big teams in Toulouse, the goal is to highlight them, but also to raise awareness of a discipline that is still completely emerging.”

A refreshment bar and a catering offer will also be installed. Last year, 400 people attended the evening. “We expect no less,” concludes Léa Marionette.
