Just a few hours after Lou Jeanmonnot’s victory in the women’s pursuit, the men represented an even greater threat to our federation. And for good reason, the French achieved an odious hat-trick in the sprint, all the worse when the chase takes over the times of this race. But obviously, the French men’s biathlon team was keen to redeem themselves today. And we thank him warmly.
The French are restoring the image of biathlon
The first biathlete to leave, Quentin Fillon-Maillet was closely followed by Émilien Jacquelin and Fabien Claude. If the first two spin on the penalty ring from the first shot, this is not the case for Fabien Claude who has plenty of time to escape at the head of the race. And imagine a first career success in the World Cup. Ah, hope.
But like Julia Simon a few hours earlier, leader Fabien Claude will offer us a marvel of standing shooting. In fact, the Frenchman misses not one, not two, not even three but four shots behind the rifle. An anthological moment, of pure grace, followed just behind by Jacquelin’s three mistakes. The ecstasy is total in our offices.
-“I am disappointed (…) When I made 3 mistakes, I thought of Julia Simon who experienced the same thing” Fabien Claude
As a result, we go from a French triplet at the start, to a Norwegian triplet at the finish. Isn’t life beautiful? And pompom on the Garonne, Eric Perrot and Quentin Fillon-Maillet finished fourth and fifth, without sharing with their opponents when it comes to chocolate. Of course, we’re not even talking about the sublime fall of Fabien Claude, who went from first to 18th place in the space of half a race. Fabulous Fab.
