The Swiss fail at Scuol, the “old guys” ensure

Swiss snowboarders remained far from the podium in Scuol during the parallel giant on Saturday. The Polish Aleksandra Król-Walas and the Italian Maurizio Bormolini won ahead of duos separated by two decades.

The snow in Graubünden was obviously not to the liking of Swiss snowboarders on Saturday. Ladina Caviezel and Flurina Neva Bätschi further progressed to the quarter-finals at the women’s parallel giant in Scuol, but remained without a podium. The 21-year-old snowboarder still scored her first top 10 in the World Cup discipline. Julie Zogg failed against the Globe holder, the German Ramona Hofmeister, to finish 9th.

The Polish Aleksandra Król-Walas, already 2nd three times this season, was finally able to climb the highest step of the podium, for only the second time in her career, by winning against the young Japanese Tsubaki Miki. Her compatriot Tomoka Takeuchi created another surprise by taking 3rd place. At 41, the 2014 Olympic vice-champion signs her 15th World Cup podium, but her first in the discipline since… 2017.

21 years apart on the podium

It was only among Japanese women that the age gap was large. Among the men, the Austrian Dominik Burgstaller, 2nd, scored his first World Cup podium at 23, ahead of his colleague Andreas Promegger, 3rd and almost twice his age. In front of this duo, it was the Italian Maurizio Bormolini who won this first event of the year 2025. The Swiss remained outside the top 10, Gian Casanova failing in 11th place and Dario Caviezel in 15th.
