Manchester City defender Kyle Walker could leave Manchester City, Pep Guardiola announced this Saturday.
Manchester City captain and defender Kyle Walker (34) has informed the club of his desire to move on “abroad”announced coach Pep Guardiola on Saturday at a press conference. “Two days ago, Kyle asked to explore the possibilities of playing abroad and finishing his career there”said Guardiola after the 8-0 victory against Salford (4th division) in the FA Cup.
“In his mind, he would like to explore it (this hypothesis, editor’s note), go to another country, play the last years (elsewhere) for many reasons”he added. The right-back has won fifteen titles with Manchester City, including three in 2023 (championship, FA Cup and Champions League), since his arrival from Tottenham in 2017.
The England international, however, experienced a drop in performance during the current financial year, which he does not always play as a starter. “We can’t imagine the success we’ve had over the last few years without Kyle. It’s impossible”commented Guardiola. “Having a right back (like him) gave us something we didn’t have and he was extraordinary”.
Walker had already asked to leave after the 2023 treble, but the club convinced him to stay, the Spanish coach revealed. “I think Bayern Munich wanted him but the offer was not good enough, the club and I asked him (to stay) because he is important”said Guardiola. In September 2023, the defender extended his contract until 2026.
