Oliver Kapanen hits his head (without helmet) on the ice

Oliver Kapanen was widely talked about at the start of the season. At the Montreal Canadiens’ training camp, he opened many eyes because of his good performances.

But as he did not dominate during the season with the Canadian, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton chose to send him back to Europe to finish the season, so that he could have good playing time.

And since he performs well there (he has almost a point per game), the decision was obviously the right one.

But in the last hours, Oliver Kapanen suffered a headache. While things were happening in front of his team’s net, he fell and his helmet did not stay on his head.

Result? The impact was violent. At least, in my eyes, it was.

The good news is he was able to get off the ice on his own. He may not have finished the game, but he didn’t lie on the ice for many minutes either.

According to Patrik Bexell, the CH prospect should “probably” be able to play in his club’s next match, next Thursday.

I don’t know if he’s relying on his information to say that or if he’s just speculating based on the hit on the ice and the way Kapanen reacted, but I would wait a bit before commenting. A concussion (a possibility here) can hurt a lot.

The situation must therefore be monitored.

At the next CH training camp, I expect to see Kapanen and Owen Beck fighting for a position. I don’t know who CH will look for as a center player this summer, but we can expect, at least, to see Christian Dvorak leave.

We’ll see in due time.
