Trained for 11 years at Anderlecht, it was not with Sporting that he revealed himself to the Pro League: “I needed to get out of my comfort zone” – Tout le football

Maxime Delanghe is in good shape with Cercle. He looks back on his atypical start to his career.

Since Warleson’s injury, Maxime Delanghe has distinguished himself in the Cercle’s goals, notably with a few saves that have been talked about in the Conference League. Interviewed by RTBF, he looks back on his career, in particular on his training in Anderlecht until the age of 16.

“I spent 11 years Anderlechtwhere I rubbed shoulders with players like Yari Verschaeren, who is a close friend, Theo Leoni, Jérémy Doku and Francis Amuzu. I even did some training with the A core during René Weiler’s time, because several goalkeepers were injured or retained in the selection” he remembers.

Delanghe had everything going for him at Neerpede but still left for PSV: “At the time, I could even sign a long-term professional contract at Anderlecht! But I felt that I had to get out of my comfort zone: Neerpede, I had the same coaches for years and I wanted to know other methods.”

PSV and the return to Belgium

The Halle native stayed six years in Eindhoven, working alongside coaches like Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Mark Van Bommel : “I progressed a lot in my kicking game there, whereas at Neerpede, the goalkeepers took rather long throws. I also had an offer from Manchester United: I went there twice to visit with my father, but I judged that the PSV project was better.”

In the shadow of the generational phenomenon Mile Svilar at Anderlecht, in the shadow of Warleson at Cercle, Delanghe had to be patient. His season at Lierse helped him re-establish himself in Belgium, it still took him 40 games to play his first minutes with the Circle. But now that he has won his place, he no longer wants to leave it. Even if the five goals conceded against…Anderlecht two months ago hurt.
