Algeria Football – The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) recently announced the official return of the national team of local players, under the leadership of its former coach, Madjid Bougherra.
This decision is part of the FAF’s ongoing preparation to strengthen local competitions and promote talents playing in the national championship. However, an unexpected announcement accompanied this news.
Indeed, the FAF has announced that the local team will not participate in the next edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025). The main reason given is the busy schedule of players playing in Ligue 1 Mobilis clubs, who compete simultaneously in national and continental competitions. In order not to compromise the performance of the clubs and to allow them to concentrate on their respective objectives, the FAF has decided to opt for an alternative solution.
-On the other hand, the general secretary of the FAF, Nadir Bouzenad, revealed that for the CHAN 2025 qualifiers, Algeria will field players from the U17 and U20 selections. This strategic choice aims to offer valuable experience to young talents and to prepare the next generation for the national team. This initiative could also strengthen the visibility and competitiveness of young categories, while allowing local clubs to manage their squads more effectively.
This decision, although surprising, demonstrates the FAF’s desire to juggle between the promotion of young players and maintaining club performance. It remains to be seen whether this innovative approach will bear fruit in future competitions.
