“In the new DSME strategic plan, the goal is to reduce maternal mortality from 153 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023 to 94 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births by 2028,” said Massamba Sall, head of the promotion and partnership unit at the Department of Mother and Child Health (Dsme).
He made the revelation this Friday, January 10, 2025. He was speaking during a workshop focused on the use of digital technology for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and the creation of online content organized by the Association of Health Journalists population and development (Ajspd).
According to him, this plan also aims to “reduce infant and child mortality from 40 deaths per 1000 live births in 2023 to 29.3 deaths per 1000 live births in 2028, as well as neonatal mortality from 23 deaths per 1000 births live births in 2023 at 15.1 deaths per 1000 live births.
-Concerning infant mortality, reports the Aps, Massamba Sall, confided that “the plan aims to go from 31 deaths per 1000 births in 2023 to 20.4 deaths per 1000 live births by 2028”.
Beyond the objectives linked to indicator data, “the new DSME strategic plan calls for the integration of nutritional inputs into the SEN-PNA distribution circuit. The plan is expected to include the development of adolescent/youth spaces in all health structures, compliance with standards in human resources, equipment as well as improvement in governance and accountability,” explained Mr. Sall. .
He recalled that Senegal has “153 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births”.
