Toronto FC has turned to a familiar face by hiring Robin Fraser as head coach.
The 58-year-old already held a position as assistant to Greg Vanney at TFC during the glorious years of the club, which notably signed a treble in 2017. He left Toronto in August 2019 to manage the Colorado Rapids.
After enjoying success upon his arrival in Colorado, he was fired in September 2023, with the injury-plagued club sitting last in MLS with a 3-13-10 record.
He most recently served as an advisor to CT United FC, an MLS Next Pro club in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Fraser, whose contract is valid until the end of 2027, becomes TFC’s 15th coach.
The Queen City team has been without a coach since John Herdman resigned on November 29, after a little more than a season at the head of the team.
Prior to his first stint in Toronto, Fraser served as an assistant at Real Salt Lake and with the New York Red Bulls. He also managed Chivas USA for two seasons.
On the pitch, he was a formidable defender, being capped 27 times for Team USA in addition to being twice named MLS Defender of the Year.
TFC (11-19-4) missed the MLS playoffs for the fourth consecutive season in 2024.
