Didier Deschamps officially announced it on Wednesday January 8: after the 2026 World Cup, he will no longer be the coach of the Blues. And already, the name of Zidane for the future seems obvious.
Zinedine Zidane is unanimous among Ligue 1 coaches. As colleagues but also simple French people, lovers of the Blues, Franck Haise and Antoine Kombouaré, coaches of Nice and Nantes, have not the slightest doubt. “There is real evidence, I agree, that Zidane will be the future coach of the France team in 2026“, estimates Franck Haise.
“If there is one today that people want to see at the head of the selection, it’s Zizou“, says Antoine Kombouaré.
Plebiscite for Zidane and immense gratitude to Deschamps. Pierre Sage, the Lyonnais, already appreciates the timing of the decision. “I think it’s courageous to announce it before, because somewhere, it avoids linking it to the results, and it’s simply linked to the process and the duration,” he explains, adding congratulate him “for this position taken quite earlybut also for everything he did.”
Antoine Kombouaré regrets a form of “Deschamps-bashing” for a few months. “I don’t understand, he’s the best coach we’ve had. He has incredible results and many countries envy Didier Deschamps,” he believes.
All these French coaches therefore understand the enormous pressure that will weigh on the shoulders of the successor.
