former Orléans coach, Bernard Casoni, fined 25,000 euros

The former coach of the US Orléans football club, Bernard Casoni, was sentenced to a fine of 25,000 euros, including 15,000 euros suspended, for public racist insult, “ici Orléans” learned on Thursday 9 January, to the Orléans judicial court which rendered its judgment.

Bernard Casoni had, during a pre-match press conference in October 2023, said of his players that they were not “no more stupid than North Africans”. In mid-November, the prosecution requested a 30,000 euro fine, including 20,000 suspended, against the former US Orléans coach.

The day after his racist remarks, revealed by “ici Orléans”, Bernard Casoni was suspended by his club. The announcement of his dismissal came less than a month after the events, on November 6. Ten months later, Bernard Casoni joined a new club. In September 2024, the sixty-year-old was appointed as the new coach of SC Gagnoa, a club in the Ivorian second division.
