Since the holiday season winning streak, people have spoken highly of Martin St-Louis. However, before this sequence, several fans no longer wanted to know anything about him at the helm of the Canadiens.
In December, the Canadiens suffered a 9-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was probably the most humiliating game of the Habs’ season and a turning point for the team.
The future of Martin St-Louis could have been in doubt at this time. In fact, Alexandre Pratt of La Presse rather thinks that there would have been serious discussions about the future of coach with Montreal if the team suffered another bitter setback in the following days.
This is what he revealed during the last episode of the podcast Sort the zone from 98.5 Sports and La Presse.
Pratt also explained that people were very critical of the Canadian at that time, including himself. People were right to be!
After this 9-2 defeat, the Canadiens occupied the very last place in the Eastern Association. It’s crazy to see that the Canadian is currently fighting for a drafted team spot.
Kent Hughes never flinched in the situation, however. He says again and again that he wants to follow his plan and that St. Louis is part of it. For him, there is no question of firing his coach while the reconstruction process is still underway.
During his mid-season review, Hughes once again reiterated that he has confidence in St. Louis. He likes the fact that his coach is able to face challenges and is always improving.
-To return to Pratt, he seriously believes that the key to success was to tighten up the defense with in particular the addition of Alexandre Carrier and the arrival of Jakub Dobes in place of Cayden Primeau.
The Canadian has allowed fewer than three goals six times in his last 10 games. The problem really seems to have been resolved on defense and Martin St-Louis can receive his flowers after so much criticism towards him.
Kent Hughes rightly threw it at him during his mid-season review. He liked seeing St. Louis find a way to communicate with his players so they understand what he expects of them.
In burst
