The Amiens Métropole football and rugby clubs can no longer play on their pitch until next Tuesday, January 14. The decision was taken via an order from Guillaume Duflot, the vice-president of sports of the Amiens Métropole urban community.
The latter is motivated by “due to the current poor weather conditions and under penalty of seriously harming the state of the stadiums and football and rugby fields in Amiens Métropole“, mentions the decree.
The city specifies that the rains caused by the Floriane depression will be followed by a period of frost. In order to “maintain the lawns“clubs not playing on synthetic pitches, the agglomeration has decided to implement the decree in 24 of the 39 municipalities that make it up: Allonville, Amiens, Bertangles, Blangy-Tronville, Boves, Cagny, Camon, Cardonette , Dreuil-les-Amiens, Glisy, Longueau, Pont-de-Metz, Poulainville, Querrieu, Rivery, Sains-en-Amienois, Saint-Fuscien, Saleux, Salouël, Saint-Sauflieu, Saveuse, Saint-Vaast-en-Chaussée, Vers-sur-Selle and Rumigny.
The Unicorn stadium being a hybrid stadium is not concerned, indicates the decree. This Monday, the Floriane depression caused inconvenience in transport. It is therefore sport’s turn to be impacted.
It was the same thing last year. This is the problem with land in areas where it rains often.
Robin PelletHead of the RC Amienois rugby school
The training schedule of the Rugby Club Amiénois is thus turned upside down. The seniors are moving to Arras, after a break period. “We need to be able to train to be able to play properly on Sunday“, indicates Robin Pellet, player of the team and head of the association’s rugby school. This ban comes at a bad time, “it’s back after the holidays“.
He admits to being half surprised by the order. He also asked himself the question during the day, this Monday, January 6. “It was the same thing last year. This is the problem with land in areas where it rains often.“He confirms that if there is training on the ground,”he is going to do training and it will immediately be very complicated“. Not counting all the young, female categories.
Last year, at the same time, “we lost two weeks of training because of that. This year, we’re going to try to do it differently“, says Robin Pellet.
The ban poses logistical problems for RC Amiens because “all the gyms are complete with all the sports associations there are in Amiens“. Good news for all sports except outdoor ones. He mentions the difficulty of “find solutions” at the last minute.
As for the seniors, Robin is not worried. “We always managed to train despite the orders“, on grassy areas. As head of the rugby school, it seems difficult for him to find solutions by Wednesday. He hopes to find some for Thursday and Saturday.
The club is in agreement with others in the Somme. If necessary, they will be able to move the meetings planned at home this weekend, if conditions permit in other municipalities.
