Westerlo has a goalkeeping problem. Sinan Bolat lost his starting place after a worrying number of errors, and his replacement was not necessarily intended to be number 1.
KVC Westerlo started the season with Sinan Bolat between the poles, but the 36-year-old Turkish veteran lost his place following errors which even ended up turning the Kuipje public against him. Since October, it is Koen Van Langendonck who has occupied the Campinois poles, without necessarily shining.
In short: this winter, Westerlo will look for a “real” replacement for Bolat. Recently, a well-known name was mentioned: that of Hervé Koffi, n°2 at Racing Lens and who is waiting to see what will happen to Brice Samba. Koffi took advantage of the latter’s situation, awaiting departure, to play his first Ligue 1 match of the season this Sunday and even be one of the men of the match.
With Jean Butez ultimately not having to sign for Lens, it is possible that Hervé Koffi will stay with the Sang & Or. Newspaper reports that KVC Westerlo may have activated another lead, this time leading to the Premier League.
Indeed, Timmy Simons’ club would have inquired about Joe Gauci (24 years old), Aston Villa’s reserve goalkeeper. Arriving in England last summer, Gauci only played in the Carabao Cup and even lost his place on the bench at the end of last year. He could seek playing time in Campine.
Another club, unspecified, would also have inquired about Joe Gauci, who is also a confirmed Australian international with 7 caps. He previously played at Adelaide United, where he worked alongside Jordan Bos, currently at Westerlo.
