Patrick Kluivert had put his CV on Jesper Fredberg’s desk after the dismissal of Brian Riemer, without success. The former FC Barcelona and AC Milan star will become Indonesia coach.
Patrick Kluivert (48 years old) will add a new exotic line to his CV. The former Dutch international, without a position since December 2023, goes according to the Telegraph take charge of the Indonesian national team, which parted ways with Shin Tae-Yong recently.
Kluivert is expected to sign a contract until 2026 with an option for two additional years, and will have great responsibilities since he will also become the coach of the U23 team, in other words the Olympic team. The objective: to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and for the 2028 Olympics.
In Indonesia, a football-loving country where stadiums are often filled to the brim for national team matches, Patrick Kluivert will notably manage Sandy Walsh (Mechelen) and Ragnar Oratmangoen (Dender).
This will be his second experience at the head of a national team, having coached Curaçao from 2015 to 2016. The Dutchman was also assistant coach to Louis Van Gaal in the Netherlands from 2012 to 2014, then to Clarence Seedorf in Cameroon. from 2018 to 2019.
A few months ago, Patrick Kluivert was one of the many coaches to have left their CV on the desk of Wouter Vandenhaute and Jesper Fredberg following the dismissal of Brian Riemer. His little experience as T1 of a club had not made him a candidate considered serious by the RSCA.
