Dakar 2025 – Stage 2: Al-Rajhi takes the 48h Chrono, Loeb fast

After a marathon of just over 600 kilometers on Sunday, it was a “sprint” of just over 300 kilometers that the competitors awaited this Monday. The opportunity for them to press the pedal after having had to play strategists the day before. And it must be said that Nasser Al-Attiyah (Dacia) did not hesitate for a single second to throw wood to put pressure on the man who was leading this 48H Chrono at the halfway point, Yazeed Al-Rajhi (Toyota).

But the Saudi showed himself to be tough against the Qatari, whom he was ahead of by a little over a minute this Sunday at the end of this first part of these two days of stage. This Monday, Yazeed Al-Rajhi also had a heavy foot and was not impressed by the top speed of his rival, 5 times winner of the Dakar.

Over these slightly more than 300 kilometers of today's stage, the driver of Hilux No. 201 therefore attacked to cross the finish line with a time of 10h56.54 ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah by 4'29, thus winning a little more than three minutes compared to the day before.

A gap which changed somewhat after the finish since the two men were penalized with 2 and 4 minutes each respectively. If Al-Rajhi retained the stage victory, Al-Attiyah fell to 3rd at 6'29 while Henk Lategan was inserted between the two men, 4'16 behind the winner.

In the standings, Yazeed Al-Rajhi, a time back at 2'45 behind the new leader Henk Lategan, ended the day 4'45 behind the South African after the application of his penalty. Nasser Al-Attiyah is 3rd at 11'14.

Provisional classification of stage 2.

Loeb makes up time

Victim of an electronic problem with the fans of his Dacia Sandrider, which forced him to stop for several minutes this Sunday, Sébastien Loeb had a completely different day this Monday. The Alsatian managed to get rid of his worries from the day before and was able to attack in this Stage 2 of the Dakar 2025. He kept the pace of the leading group and even made up time on them. In fact, he gained more than a quarter of an hour compared to the rest area from which he set off again this Monday morning.

When crossing the finish line of the stage, he was provisionally 7th and was 13'08 behind Yazeed Al-Rajhi compared to more than 30 minutes at the end of the first part of this 48H Chrono this Sunday. Overall, he appears at the gates of the Top 5, just under 20 minutes behind leader Henk Lategan.

Virtual general classification after the 48H Chrono

This Tuesday, Stage 3 will start from Bisha and go to Al Henakiyah for a total of 495 kilometers of special.
