In Marcillé-Raoul, the nurse turns the page and becomes a book creator

At the Gaec des Domaines Christmas market in Saint-Rémy-du-Plain (Ille-et-Vilaine), on December 12, 2024, a designer caught the attention. A former nurse, Aurélie Guevelou-Mironet, who became a self-taught author and illustrator, offers books on the markets that she has entirely created.

Before becoming a creator, Aurélie Guevelou-Mironet spent twenty years caring for others as a nurse, particularly in schools. It’s not that I was in the wrong profession, but I needed creativity she confides. Originally from Côtes-d’Armor and based in Marcillé-Raoul for thirteen years, she began a career change two years ago, drawing on her lifelong passion: drawing and writing.

Messages to help you grow

This professional turning point did not come out of nowhere. It was by wanting to explain something to her daughter, then aged 2, that she created her first illustrated book. Words weren’t enough, so I added drawings. This is how it all started.

After a few attempts in an associative environment, two years ago she began writing, illustrating and self-publishing books for all ages, exploring themes such as emotions, wonder or self-knowledge. For children, I want to transmit values and messages that help them grow. For adults, it’s more introspective, on subjects that touch on daily life and the trials we go through.

Unique copies

The particularity of Aurélie’s works lies in their artisanal manufacturing. Each copy is unique, with covers made from recycled paper and careful binding. I create everything from A to Z, even the bookmarks. They are handmade with reclaimed materials. His stories, like Amari, princess of the desert or The Pillar of the Bridgecombine imagination and personal development. The first, intended for adolescents, address the quest for oneself through adventure. The second, for adults, offers a reflection on doubts and resilience.

Far from traditional circuits, Aurélie favors local markets to share her creations. She exhibits in a radius of 40 kilometers around Marcillé-Raoul, participating in weekly markets such as that of Dol-de-Bretagne (Saturday), Cancale and Fougères (Sunday).
