A JPL goalkeeper to succeed Butez at Antwerp?

Antwerp hopes to find a solution for Jean Butez during the winter transfer window. The French goalkeeper has fallen into the shadow of Senne Lammens and we hope to get rid of him at Bosuil. His successor could come from JPL.

Butez was for many years the official number one at the Great Old and has largely contributed to the club’s recent successes. With Antwerp, he even won the national title and the Belgian Cup. During the last Golden Shoe Gala, the Frenchman was also elected “goalkeeper of the year”.

But it is partly for financial reasons that Antwerp decided to play the young Senne Lammens card to the fullest. The intention was therefore to sell Butez during the last transfer window. And the interest was there. RSC Anderlecht notably tried to attract the Frenchman for a while.

The saga around Butez

However, there was no white smoke. Butez therefore had to stay in Antwerp. There, he has to be content with a place on the sidelines. It was only in the cup, and occasionally with the club’s young players, that he was able to play a little. The parties involved hope to find a solution during the winter break.

For a while, Como and RC showed concrete interest. But today, those leads seem to have gone cold. It therefore remains to be seen whether an alternative will be found in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, the sports management does not remain inactive. If Butez leaves, it will indeed be necessary to find a new understudy for Lammens.

A JPL goalkeeper in the running

To do this, the market is already being surveyed. Het Laatste Nieuws, for example, reports that Tom Vandenberghe is in the running. The goalkeeper was already followed last summer, but he decided to stay at KV Kortrijk. It is therefore possible that Antwerp will try its luck again. But we will have to act quickly. La Gantoise would also be on board.
